Restaurant Magis in the heart of Tongeren is housed in a beautifully renovated historic building from as early as the 13th century. You might rather expect classic cuisine here, but nothing could be further from the truth.
At least, chef Dimitry Lysens certainly masters the classic cooking techniques, but he clearly gives it his contemporary twist. The kitchen team experiments a lot with forgotten vegetables and herbs from home and abroad. This way, they respond to a growing need of the guests. And that in turn fits in perfectly with the restaurant’s own development.
Recognisable products such as scallops or game thus appear on the plate in a very surprising way, whereby the vegetables are not the least important. Eating at Magis thus becomes a pleasant adventure, especially when combined with the warm welcome by hostess Aagje Moens and her team, the boldly sleek interior and, in summer, the comfortable terrace in the beautiful city garden, where an oasis of calm reigns.
Culinary enjoyment at Magis means a few moments of flavour intensity and relatively light digestion.
