A cosy restaurant, tables arranged around a large open kitchen, located in a former tailor’s workshop on the Markt in Gulpen. Here it is cosy and warm, as if you were visiting the Kinkartz family. When Ellen and Hans opened their restaurant in 1999, the roles were reversed: she in the kitchen, he at the front of the shop. Since then, we know no other way than that Hans takes the reigns in the kitchen, and Ellen receives all her guests equally kindly and surprises them with the finest, most special wines.
In the large open kitchen, Hans combines his own artisanal, classic base with the contemporary influences of his young guard. This results in special flavour combinations that linger. For example, you will taste a dish with perfectly cooked turbot, smoked eel, lime, macadamia nut and asparagus. Dishes like this, combined with distinct wines, finally resulted in a first Michelin star for Atelier in 2022
