Harmony Orchestra Conservatorium Maastricht

The Spanish conductor Pascual Vilaplana directs the excellent Harmony Orchestra of Conservatorium Maastricht during an exuberant concert. He is conductor at multiple harmony orchestras in Spain, Cuba, Argentina and Romania and is also asked often as judge on (inter)national competitions.

Jazz Open Night, Guitar

This year, the jazz department of Conservatorium Maastricht is organizing several open nights to invite all curious jazz musicians to take a close look into the various departments. Tonight’s program features Jazz Guitar.

With soulmates Anne Azéma (who also garnered success in Musica Sacra) and Shira Kammen - two ‘grandes ladies’ of early music - on stage, this medieval concert program promises a strong dose of girlpower. In the image-rich verses and enchanting hymns of trouvères such as Gautier d’Espinal, Thibaut de Champagne and Chretien de Troyes, a colorful silhouette of the woman as goddess and lover, mother and muse is depicted.

Dmitry Liss knows the vigour and venom of romantic, Russian music through and through, nor does the music by Johannes Brahms hold any secrets for him. Liss knows how to combine the poetic idylls of his Second Symphony with ‘sombre contemplation’. He makes Brahms into an experience, ‘an endearing man of flesh and blood’. And Liss also brings along violinist Sergey Krylov.

Pieter van Loenen Dutch Classical Talent

Pieter van Loenen graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with a 10 with distinction and also received the ‘Fock Medaille’ for the best final exams. He combines music with dance, by which he tells a personal and vulnerable story. A new work by Jan-Peter de Graaff, especially composed for this concert, highlights the theme of innocence.

Maastricht Antiquarian Book & Print Fair (MABP)

Maastricht’s gothic Sint Janskerk (Church of St. John) will once again be transformed into a Valhalla for collectors and lovers of antiquarian books and engravings. Around thirty renowned antiquarian book traders from the Netherlands and abroad will be bringing the most valuable and interesting items from their collections to Maastricht at the MABP, the largest Antiquarian Book & Print Fair in the Benelux region.

Treasure room of the Basilica of Our Lady
The treasure room of this historical basilica in the heart of the city, will be opened exclusively during the fair. In this room, you will find church art from centuries old. From a very special and world famous Byzantine relic box from the 9th century, to modern ecclesiastical crockery from the 20th century. Moreover, you can check out old paintings and sculptures and the stole of Pope John Paul II.

Music & Shopping Night
On Thursday the 21st of March there will be a ‘Music & Shopping Night’ in the centre of Maastricht. Exhibitors and visitors of the Fair, as well as locals from the city will be surprised with a musical and festive programme. From 5PM till 9PM (amongst other things) a young talent from the Maastricht Academy of Music will perform on different locations spread around the city. As the shops are opened till 9PM, it promises to be a beautiful, cultural mixture of all the facets that the city has to offer: enjoying diverse shops, combined with classical and jazzy sounds!
